It defines occasions to a certain extent (think birthday cake!) and has bred a new pastime of taking photos of whatever is being eaten then sharing it on social media. Another palpable food trend today is people all around the globe wanting to eat healthier and more conscientiously – hence the emergence of terms like low food miles, free range meat and non-GMO produce. Thanks to the media and affordable technology, more people are now better informed about what goes into their food and how it affects the local community where it’s produced and the world at large. Sustainable food advocates like the Grace Communications Foundation and the Blue Ocean Network are actively driving a food movement to educate and help people make healthier and safer food choices, from supporting local food farmers to learning about the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
